How Many Accidents Occur in Gainesville GA Each Year?
Over a five-year period (2020-2024), Gainesville averaged around 179 accidents involving injury a year. That’s according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The city also averaged around 5 fatal crashes a year over that period. GDOT figures show that after fewer accidents in 2020 and 2021, crash rates have been elevated right through 2024. In 2024, Gainesville documented 187 accidents involving injuries and at least 3 crashes that involved fatalities. It remains to be seen if 2025’s final count will show an improvement.
By comparison, Georgia has recorded thousands of serious accidents over the past five years. The busiest cities in Georgia, like Atlanta, Augusta, and Macon, definitely contribute to the shocking number of frightening crashes.
In 2024, the GDOT showed that the state was the scene of over 32,000 accidents involving injuries. Among those collisions were almost 1,500 heartbreaking fatal crashes.
As expected, most of Georgia’s deadly accidents occur in urban areas. That’s according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA.

How Many Fatal Accidents Occur in Hall County Each Year?
According to GDOT, Hall County has been the unfortunate site of an average of 25 fatal crashes a year over the past five years (2020-2024). Hall County recorded 20 fatal collisions in 2024. That basically matched the 2023 figure. It’s hoped that this timeline shows a dramatic drop when 2025 accident figures are finally tabulated.
By comparison, Atlanta had to report 58 deadly crashes in 2024. And in 2023, Atlanta recorded 73 fatal accidents.
A better gauge may be to look at nearby Forsyth County statistics. Forsyth County, including the city of Cumming, has a population of around 270,000, while Hall County is home to around 220,000 people.
Sadly, Hall County motorists cause a similar number of deadly accidents as those in the much larger Forsyth County. In some years, Hall County records many more fatalities.
In 2024, Forsyth County documented at least 21 fatal collisions for the year.
How Many Alcohol-Involved Fatal Accidents Occur in Hall County GA?
On average, Hall County sees around 7 fatalities due to alcohol-involved impairment each year. That’s over a recent five-year period (2019-2023), according to the NHTSA. Across the state, alcohol-related fatalities (433) account for around 27% of the total number of fatalities across Georgia. That’s in line with national numbers. The U.S reported around 12,500 drunk-driving deaths on the nation’s roads. That made up around 30% of all fatalities. Hall County and Gainesville saw at least 5 lives lost to alcohol-related crashes in 2023. That was about 2.3 fatalities per 100,000 people in the county. Drunk driving remains a tragic and preventable problem in our region.
